Here are answers to some of the questions most parents ask about the Healthy Kids program.

Question (Q): How do I apply for Healthy Kids?
Answer (A): Call 1-877-613-KIDS (5437) - A Certified Application Assistant in your area will help you complete an application.
Q: Who qualifies?
A: Children who do not qualify for full scope, no-cost Medi-Cal or Healthy Families. Children 0 through 5. Children living in Tulare County.
Q: What are the income limits?
A: Families with incomes at or below 300% Federal Income Guidelines. Click here for 2009 Guidelines.
Q: How much does it cost?
A: Healthy Kids Premiums are $7 to $15 per child per month, with a maximum of $45 per month. $5 co-pays for sick child visits. No co-pays for preventative services. $20 co-pay for Emergency Room visits.
Q: Does immigration status matter?
A: Immigration status does not matter as long as children fall within the income guidelines.
Q: What documents do I need to get started?
A: Proof of income. Proof of Tulare County residency. Proof of age. Proof of child's identity (a document that shows parent name). Proof of deductions
Q: After I finish my application how long does it take to get started?
A: Completed applications received by the 15th of the month: Healthy Kids becomes active the first day of the following month. Completed applications received after the 15th of the month: Healthy Kids becomes active the first day of the second month after the application was received.
Q: What benefits are covered?
A: Medical & Mental Health, Dental, and Vision Care.
Q: How will Healthy Kids provide health care for my children?
A: Medical services are provided by Health Net HMO. Dental services are provided by Delta Dental. Vision services are provided by Vision Services Plan (VSP).
Q: What if I already have health insurance?
A: If your child has only employer-paid dental or vision coverage, the child will be eligible for Healthy Kids coverage. If your child has employer-paid medical insurance only, the child is not eligible for Healthy Kids coverage and may not enroll in the Healthy Kids dental or vision plans. If your child is covered under a private insurance that is not employer-paid. then your child will be eligible for Healthy Kids coverage.
